I do worry that we have uncritically accepted the idea that decentralization is "just better" than the alternative without actually defining, in concrete terms, what would make vulnerable communities feel safe, valued and welcome on any given Instance.
I would love to see more clarity on the established norms, beliefs and credos that can help diverse groups find welcoming instances and then thrive. Contrary to popular opinion simply being diverse does not always guarantee a predictably safe experience.
What I have seen in the Fediverse feels better than Twitter. Simultaneously, it is also quite fair to say that what we have today in the Fediverse needs more work.
This is not a shot at the Fediverse. Critical analysis of good things produces even better outcomes.
