It was made clear, quite categorically, that being a Microsoft employee gives you almost zero insights into the exciting things other teams are producing. Case in point are the list of amazing hardware releases coming to the Surface family in the next year. Having been a hardcore Windows Phone developer and user it brings me great joy to see the reemergence of a new phone from Microsoft, Surface Duo. This hardware reminds me of past, failed hardware iterations, but I am more excited about the ways that the futuristic productivity visions appear to be coalescing into reality.
Surface Duo (ETA Holiday season 2020)
“Surface Duo is the first Surface to fit in your pocket. It brings together the best of Microsoft productivity experiences, Android mobile apps, and Surface hardware design into a single device you can take with you anywhere. With two paper thin 5.6-inch screens that unfold to 8.3 inches and a 360 degree hinge enabling dual-screens and a variety of postures, along with the ability to make phone calls and texts, Surface Duo is the ultimate in mobile creation and productivity.”
